I have a shirt that says the above French statement with a picture of an owl on it. It’s the only owl-related thing I’ve ever bought for myself (besides tootsie pops as a child, of course). This is just because people have given me owl-related things throughout my comedy career, based on a bit I have. There’s a glass owl on my wetbar, an oil painting (owl painting) of an owl on my wall, and more.
Anyway, I always thought the above statement said “The treachery of owls,” which is what made me buy the shirt. I wore it home for Xmas and my mom told me that’s not what it says. What it says is “This is not an owl.” Still cool, but wha?
Turns out the shirt is just CALLED “The treachery of owls”. I recently discovered it’s based on this French painting: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/The_Treachery_of_Images
Hence the name. I just emailed this to my mom and we can both rest easy. Also, NERDS!!!
