Hey gang, I’m not posting this out of spite or anger. This is only an FYI to my friends and people who like to see me do comedy in Austin. In a nutshell, I’ve been uninvited to perform at the Moontower Festival in Austin this year.
It’s sad, because I was super excited to Moontower, as I didn’t get a chance to do it last year. Also, I love Austin, and haven’t been in a while. A couple weeks ago I got asked to do one show at SXSW called “The Nasty Show.” A ten minute set. I looked on the Moontower roster, and saw more than a few comedians who were doing both festivals. So I said yes, knowing A) I wasn’t going to do the same material at Moontower, and B) Several other comedians were doing both festivals. My thinking was that my set at “The Nasty Show” would be a great promo for Moontower.
Last weekend while I was doing The Punchline in San Francisco, my manager got a call from one of the people who run Moontower, saying I was out. We asked about the other comedians doing both, made the point that I was only doing “The Nasty Show” and no other SXSW shows, and even offered to cancel doing SXSW altogether. No dice.
All things considered, I’m just disappointed. I’ve got nothing against Moontower and know my fellow comics and pals will have a great time. As one of the founders of The Bridgetown Festival, all I want is more and more interesting and different venues for amazing, original comedy. Viva Comedy Festivals!
Thanks for reading.
P.S. Exciting other news to come!
